Student Orientation
Student Orientation at Australis
A Confident Start to Your Journey
At Australis, we want all new students to feel welcome, informed and ready to begin their studies with confidence. Our Student Orientation Program is designed to help you settle into life at Australis and prepare for a successful start to your course.
Orientation is an essential part of your transition into higher education. It provides key information about your course, support services, safety, student responsibilities and how to make the most of your time at Australis. Attending Orientation ensures you are equipped from day one – academically, personally and practically.
Why Orientation Matters
Orientation is more than just an introduction – it sets the foundation for your entire learning experience. During Orientation, you will:
Receive critical information about your course structure, enrolment and academic expectations
Learn how to access study support, wellbeing services and key resources
Understand your responsibilities as a student and the rules that apply
Get set up with systems, email access and online tools
Meet staff and fellow students, helping you feel part of the Australis community
All new students are expected to attend Orientation. If you are unable to attend, please notify Student Services before your arrival so we can arrange a tailored session to help you settle in.
What to Expect During Orientation: Orientation at Australis covers the essential things every new student needs to know. While the format may vary slightly, you can typically expect:
Welcome to Australis: The program begins with a welcome session led by senior academic staff. You will be introduced to the Australis team, including our Student Services staff, who are here to support you throughout your studies.
Registration and ID Card: You will be guided through a simple registration process. Once registered, you will receive your Student ID card, which gives you access to campus facilities.
Campus Tour: Explore your new study environment. Our Student Services team will show you around campus, including classrooms, the library, computer labs, breakout areas and emergency facilities.
Getting Set Up: We will help you activate your student email, update your contact details and introduce you to our Learning Management System. This session ensures you are confident using the digital tools that support your learning.
Course Briefing: Your Course Co-ordinator will explain your course structure, assessment requirements, attendance expectations and key academic policies. You will also learn about how to seek help if you need to defer or adjust your enrolment.
Support Services Overview: You will be introduced to the academic and wellbeing support services available at Australis, including study support, referrals for personal wellbeing and library services.
Safety and Wellbeing: We take your wellbeing seriously. Orientation includes guidance on both campus and online safety, and information about your rights and responsibilities as a student at Australis.
Information for International Students: If you are an international student, we will cover important details around visa conditions, Overseas Student Health Cover (OSHC), and how to access support for settling into life in Australia.
Student Life and Community: Meet current students and hear about clubs, events and social opportunities. Student representatives will share their experiences and talk about ways to get involved in campus life.
Health, Legal and Emergency Services: You will also receive an overview of local emergency contacts, health services and where to seek legal assistance if needed. These sessions are sometimes delivered by guest speakers from the community.
Late Arrivals: If you are arriving after the official Orientation Program, please contact Student Services as soon as possible. We will organise a tailored session to ensure you receive the essential information and support needed to begin your studies with confidence.
